Over the past three years, the JCHLC has been conducting a county-wide survey of historic resources. Funding for this survey has been provided by the Jefferson County Commission, the State Historic Preservation Office, and the Jefferson County Historical Society. The survey includes only those areas outside the boundaries of incorporated towns. More than 2000 historic resources have been identified by the survey project, the results of which have been mapped and compiled into a database. More detailed survey work will be ongoing as funding is obtained. The JCHLC works with groups and individuals in the county on various preservation projects. These varying projects include stabilization of historic structures, National Register nominations, and funding source identification. |
